Accessibility Statement
Barbour.com is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. We have partnered with accessibility consultancy BeInclusive who has conducted a comprehensive audit of our website, from which remediation and verification has been completed. We are actively working to improve the accessibility and usability of our website and aim to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards.
This statement was prepared on 09/06/2025 and will be reviewed again on 11/08/2025
Audit Description
The audit was conducted using both automated and manual testing methods:
- Automated tools: SortSite, Axe, and WAVE
- Manual testing: Screen readers (VoiceOver on macOS and NVDA on Windows) on Chrome and Firefox
The audit was carried out by members of BeInclusive, our digital accessibility consultancy team.
Non-Accessible Areas
This website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliance(s) listed below:
- Some links do not contain sufficiently descriptive text or are empty, making navigation confusing for screen reader users.
- In certain cases, the link text is not correctly associated with the link element, resulting in “empty” links being read by assistive technologies.
- Some ARIA attributes are incorrectly implemented (e.g. aria-expanded, aria-hidden, or broken aria-labelledby references), which may prevent screen readers from properly interpreting the content.
- Dropdown menus do not correctly update their accessibility state when expanded, and may remain open after navigation, causing screen reader users to lose context.
- When navigating using the keyboard (Tab key), focus can move outside of modal windows due to missing focus trapping.
- Feedback messages after form submissions (success or error) are not announced to screen reader users, as the dynamic content is not communicated programmatically.
- Certain text elements and focus outlines (e.g. 1px solid #202124) do not provide sufficient contrast against their background.
- Some images are missing alternative text, making them invisible to users relying on screen readers.
- Product names are announced multiple times by screen readers due to repeated ARIA labels and duplicate content in the DOM.
- Radio buttons and textarea inputs are not properly associated with their labels, which may hinder form navigation via assistive technologies.
- Visually disabled elements (e.g. unselectable color buttons) remain focusable via keyboard or screen reader, causing confusion as they appear interactive but do not perform any action.
Method of Evaluation
The audit followed the WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines and included a representative sample of user journeys, forms, modals, and interactive elements.
