BARBOUR INTERNATIONAL x YMC
This season YMC puts their stamp on Barbour International blending our rich motorcycling heritage since 1936 with the directional and DIY attitude of YMC.
In 1894, Barbour first developed all-weather outerwear for the coast and countryside. And in 1936, the Barbour International suit was designed especially for motorcyclists. Barbour International jackets have been worn by countless professional riders over the decades, including Steve McQueen.
YMC, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is known for exploring style through the disruptive power of youth culture.
BLENDING MOTORBIKE AND YOUTH CULTURE
“I took classic details from their archive and put them through the YMC blender to recreate a modern take on the bike gang. The motorbike appears again and again in the story of youth culture. Its relative affordability and the fact that it offers freedom are doubtless key to its popularity. But it gets really interesting when gangs use it to codify identities. The bikes themselves are often customised to make them unique and to stand out."
