Die Geschichte der Barbour-Wachsjacke begann im Jahr 1894, als Unternehmensgründer John Barbour ein Bekleidungsgeschäft in South Shields im Nordosten Englands eröffnete. Dort verkaufte er funktionale und strapazierfähige Ölhäute, die Seeleute und Hafenarbeiter vor den extremen Wetterbedingungen der rauen Nordsee schützten.

Von der Bedale, der Beaufort und der Border, den drei Jacken, die sich seit den 1980er Jahren großer Beliebtheit erfreuen, bis hin zu neueren Modellen wie der Beadnell, der Ashby, der Corbridge und der Sapper, sind die klassischen Allrounder nach wie vor beliebte Bestseller bei Barbour.
