Supply Chain

Barbour is a global lifestyle brand selling many product categories in over 55 countries across the world. To cope with these requirements in these markets and the many different product categories, we now make our products in the UK, Europe and Asia. As we grew as a lifestyle brand from 2000 onwards, we quickly realised that we required a range of factories with different specialisations to produce all of our different product categories to the very high standards and quality we demand. We are proud to work with some of the best factories around the world.

We build long term relationships with our suppliers and use our processes and expertise from our manufacturing background to ensure that all our factories across the globe use the same specifications to maintain the quality and craftsmanship of our garments wherever they are made.

We strive to uphold fair, safe and dignified working conditions for everyone in our value chain and to understand and address areas of environmental risk. We work very closely with our direct suppliers and through our traceability project are continuously analysing our supply chain to uphold our environmental and social commitments.

Ethical Trade

At Barbour, our Business Partners are required to meet our Supply Chain Code of Conduct and policies to uphold our ethical trade commitments for fair, safe and dignified working conditions. Our Supply Chain Code of Conduct’s labour rights commitments are based on the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Core Conventions. We communicate these standards to our Business Partners and monitor their supplier manufacturing sites' legal compliance via third party audits.

SEDEX (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange)

SEDEX Member Logo

Barbour is a member of SEDEX, a social and environmental data sharing platform which allows us to access independent and comprehensive third party audit reports on factories and suppliers. These are used to support our assessment of our suppliers’ ethical and environmental standards as well as being used prior to onboarding a new manufacturing partner.

Sustainability in the Supply Chain

Our membership of programmes such as Better Cotton and Leather Working Group are further supporting environmental performance within our supply chain and a number of our suppliers already work to a wide range of strong environmental industry standards. In addition, suppliers must comply with our sustainability policies, with strict guidance ranging from materials to chemical use and animal welfare.

We continue to work closely with our suppliers and are implementing traceability tools, guidance and targets with the aim of advancing environmental improvements throughout the supply chain.

Transparency Pledge

Barbour signed the Transparency Pledge in early 2021 committing us to publish our Barbour Tier 1 Finished Goods list annually. This is an important step in driving greater transparency in the fashion sector. From 2023 onwards, Barbour also shares this data on the Open Supply Hub which tags buyers on each manufacturing site’s page and allows the site to display their sustainability commitments.
