Explore Barbour Re-loved Quilts

To celebrate 30 years of the iconic Liddesdale quilted jacket, we tasked a star-studded lineup of friends to design a bespoke Liddesdale created from old jackets and re-loved for a new owner. See designs below from Paul Smith, David Gandy, GANNI, Baracuta, JB Gill, Ben Fogle and more.

The jackets will be available to view in our Covent Garden quilted cube from 2nd - 13th October (10am - 9pm) and will be auctioned off with funds going towards The Royal Countryside Fund. Founded by HM King Charles III in 2010 whilst he was The Prince of Wales, The Royal Countryside Fund is the only UK-wide charity focused on the unique issues facing farming and rural communities.

Visit the jacket auction below, and like your favourite jackets to be notified for the start of the auction. Bidding will take place between 8th and 19th November. See the jackets in person at our quilted cube in London's Covent Garden (just off James Street).

Baracuta

“Music has always played a significant role within Baracuta as it is a brand that has always been adopted by subcultures and youth movements. When we think of music, the first sound that encapsulates the essence of Baracuta is undoubtedly Northern Soul, seen as a bridge between America and the UK. So, we revisited all the symbols and colours that characterised this sound and lifestyle and reinterpreted them uniquely while staying true to their historical roots.”

- Luigi, Baracuta Brand Manager

GANNI

GANNI has added some of their iconic and instantly recognisable features. Elevated velvet bows from their Bow shirt replace Barbour studs and GANNI’s signature frill collar has been oversized and created in corduroy to dramatic effect. Short in length, it has an added detachable flounce with a hidden zip. Waxed tartan elbow patches give a nod to Barbour’s Scottish roots.

David Gandy

"I wanted a truly one-of-a-kind design that I had never seen before. The idea came when I was unclipping the tonneau (the protective cover) off of my classic 1954 Jaguar XK120. When driving you are open to the elements and the tonneau is stored away. I thought about a versatile jacket design whereby you could simply fasten a protective cover or cloak, over the inner Barbour you are already wearing when you are driving to protect yourself from the elements."

- David Gandy, Model and Founder of David Gandy Wellwear

Paul Smith

“Being able to create a unique piece for the 30th anniversary of Barbour’s legendary Liddesdale Jacket was a fun project to be part of. It’s wonderful being able to celebrate another icon of British design!”

- Sir Paul Smith

Brompton

“Brompton exists to create urban freedom for happier lives. And we certainly like to move around on a bike with style. Our collaboration history with Barbour goes back a few editions of bicycles and accessories but this 30th anniversary unique re-design of the Liddesdale jacket fills us with joy to be able to join in the Barbour celebrations and once again team upto re-imagine our iconic products.”

- Marta Gut, Brompton

Shaun the Sheep - Aardman

"Following the success of our 2023 Christmas campaign, we were delighted to bring Shaun the Sheep to Barbour's iconic Liddesdale jacket. Our design team relished at the opportunity to create a Re-loved fashion piece inspired by the iconic qualities of Shaun - it just had to be wool!"

– Rachael Peacock, Senior Brand Manager at Aardman.

JB Gill - A hug in a jacket

“My Re-loved Liddesdale and Gilet is all about comfort and Love - It effortlessly bridges the gap between countryside and city. My inspiration for the handwarmer pockets was to take the warmth and comfort associated with a quilt and share it with a loved one. Whether it’s a child embracing a parent from behind or a wife embracing their partner from the front, my Liddesdale is always able to give the perfect hug, whatever the circumstance."

- JB Gill, Presenter, Farmer, Singer/Songwriter

Ben Fogle

TV presenter, writer, adventurer and long-time friend of Barbour, Ben Fogle loves to spend time in the outdoors, exploring nature and everything it has to offer. His take on the Liddesdale is inspired by the Boy Scouts and the outdoor skills they learn.

“I loved working with Barbour on this fun jacket that is everything I hoped it would be".

- Ben Fogle

Engineered Garments

“I decided to take a slightly experimental approach, heavily incorporating zippers, aiming to transform the basic design into something entirely different. As a result, the design that emerged truly resembles a transformer; the original basic design remains intact but through the wearer's ideas and ingenuity, various different looks can be achieved. Depending on the wearer'smood, the jacket can display different personalities, akin to day and night.”

- Daiki Suzuki, Engineered Garments

Karlmond Tang

“I wanted to keep all the DNA of the jacket intact as much as possible, which meant keeping the diamond quilt, the corduroy collar and its purpose as an easy-going, throw-on jacket. I thought od alternate shapes where nylon really sigs and that led me to the bomber jacket. By cropping it, repurposing excess corduroy for the waist and cuffs, and moving the existing pockets up, we created a stylised version of a very recognizable jacket. Stylistically I took inspiration from iconic jackets of the 90s.  "

- Karlmond Tang, Creative Director and Stylist

Clare Richardson

Stylist, fashion consultant and founder of Reluxe, Clare Richardson has created a longer length Liddesdale with a slightly longer back and soft curved edges with a small side split. Underneath the outer quilt is a vintage denim jacket to create a second layer. Stylish and on trend, this is a feminine take on the Liddesdale quilt.

ROKSANDA

'Embodying the essence of the romantic ROKSANDA volume and our signature silhouettes, this new shape features a voluminous two-tiered skirt crafted from hand-gathered panels of vibrant fluro pink taffeta which are seamlessly integrated into the functional outdoor Barbour jacket. Adorned with the collar of cascading taffeta ruffles reminiscent of our previous collections, this piece beautifully marries utilitarian and elegance, all while celebrating sustainability through mixed fibre recycled taffeta'

- Roksanda Ilincic
