Christmas Market Roundup 2023 with Barbour People

Christmas is near, the time for festivities is here! Jingle bells, carol singers, twinkling lights, mulled wine and classic alpine chalets, you name it, it can all be found at beloved Christmas markets this year. From North to South, Christmas markets are loved by all and as city centres prepare for the Christmas crowds, we are preparing you! 

In the spirit of Christmas, we have pulled together a round-up of some of the best Christmas markets going on this year, and a few that will be visited by our Barbour People team! So grab a hot chocolate, get comfortable and plan your very best Christmas yet.

York

Next up we have York’s St Nicholas Fair. From the 16th November to the 22nd December Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square are transformed into a winter wonderland. Spend your visit indulging in delicious food and drink from many local and artisan traders or make time for a touch of shopping, squeeze in some last-minute Christmas gifting with small yet endearing businesses offering the most unique and special gifts.  

Alternatively spend your time delving into something new, The Winter Hütte, a new Swiss dining experience from a top Yorkshire chef, serving up seasonal favourites such as gluhwein and spiced cider. The market is your oyster and we want to see the Barbour People community full of Christmas cheer as we will be attending the York Christmas market 23rd of November. So come suited and booted in your Barbour best whether that’s a coat, jacket, overshirt or winter jumper. 

Leeds

Leeds Christmas Markets have returned and this year they are bigger and better! Decked out in festive lighting, the traditional timber stalls will welcome an eclectic mix of local, UK and international traders. You will never go thirsty as there is three Christmas-themed outdoor bar areas on Briggate, Quebec street and Dortmund Square, where you can get your fill of Bavarian beer, glühwein and hot chocolates.

Other popular festive attractions are also making a return to Leeds this Christmas, including Ice Cube in Millenium Square, complete with its market stalls, and the gaint Leeds Wheel of light on Victoria Gardens. Leeds Noël-themed stalls will bring festive life, colour and vibrancy to the city's most popular spots so get a date booked in the diary now and enjoy the most magical time of the year In leeds. Also make sure to keep an eye out for our Barbour People team on the 7th December! 

Edinburgh

Starting from the top we are giving Edinburgh the spotlight. From ice rinks to ferris wheels, sweet treats galore to mouth-watering festive burgers, Edinburgh Christmas market has got it all. With festivities beginning on the 17th November till the 6th January there is plenty of joy to be had from 10am to late at Edinburgh Christmas Market. 

Sparkling lights and fairground rides line Princess Street Gardens, and the smell of fresh churros and cherry mulled wine fills the air. Round the corner to the iconic George Street ice rink, there is even more Christmas magic to be found, you can eat, drink and ice skate the night away. 

We love this city and this market, along with everything it has to offer there is no surprise that we will be visiting Edinburgh Christmas Market for Barbour People on the 24th November. So come along wearing your own Barbour and you could appear on our Barbour People page this Christmas!

Newcastle

Next up we have the Newcastle Christmas market, full of great, festive food and delightful Christmas tipples, with a spot of shopping at each of the alpine chalet stalls that line the streets. Newcastle Christmas Market is a firm favourite in the North East, amongst the cobbled streets and it's timeless georgian architecture, there is Christmas magic all around. This market takes place in the center of Newcastle, wrapping around Grey's monument and down Grey Street. Twinkling, warm Christmas lights light up the streets so there is always time for a fab photo opportunity.
