Barbour Packaging

Packaging

Packaging is vital to protect and transport our products, but we are continually reviewing packaging design and

materials in order to develop options that align with our sustainability commitments.

We are working to reduce the amount of packaging per item that we produce and to use less plastic and a greater proportion of recycled content in our packaging.

We have already implemented a large number of changes to reduce the proportion of plastic used in our packaging and over 88% of our packaging is now paper or wood-based.

E-commerce Packaging

We have switched to paper ecommerce bags which can be easily recycled in customers’ household recycling or are resealable if a customer has anything to return. We also have a range of recyclable cardboard boxes for items that are a little larger or that require a bit more protection.

Shirt Packaging

Shirt packaging typically includes many elements to protect the garment, such as clips and inserts to help collars keep their shape. A Barbour working group was formed to develop a packaging solution that used less plastic but still protected the garment. Their solutions have now been implemented across all of our shirt ranges vastly reducing the amount of plastic packaging and supporting the use of packaging which is easily recyclable in household recycling.

Gift Boxes

Our Accessories teams have worked closely with suppliers to minimise packaging used in our gift boxes and gift sets. This has included reducing box sizes and removing numerous plastic components.

Inserts are used in our wellington boots to help protect them during transportation. These used to be plastic, air-filled inserts, but we have now replaced them with easily recyclable paper-based alternatives.
