For the third year, we reunited with Aardman Animations to bring to life our Christmas campaign. Go behind the scenes with the talented team to see how they created the world’s smallest Barbour beanie and built the Gift-O-Matic robot. (They must be cream crackered now.)
How long did it take to make the film?
It took over six months to make the film – from the initial script right through to the final cut. Animators produced around two seconds of animation per day – that’s roughly ten seconds a week. Each puppet was moved over 1000 times during the film.
How was Wallace's invention created?
For the invention, we wanted something that felt truly “Wallace” - ingenious, full of charm, and gloriously overcomplicated. He’s known for creating overly elaborate contraptions for simple tasks, and the Gift-O-Matic felt like the perfect fit.
Were there any unexpected moments that happened while making the film?
Our director, Steve, acted out and recorded live-action reference for all the shots with Nick Park, which the animators then used as a guide for performance.
How were the tiny Barbour products made?
All of the tiny Barbour products, including our Classic Tartan scarf, were meticulously handmade at Aardman. The Barbour beanie that Wallace is wearing was made using tiny knitting needles.
