We have been following Mackenzie’s travels and style evolution since she started her fashion and interior design blog ‘Design Darling’ in 2009. Find out what adventures have inspired her work, and how she styles pieces from our AW17 Weather Comfort collection for life on the East Coast.
A fan of Barbour, the adventurous blogger is the perfect fit for our AW17 Weather Comfort Collection, a range focused on weather protection while being enduringly stylish and practical.

Your social channels and blog do a great job of showcasing your personal style. When did you first get into blogging and being a social influencer, and how has your style evolved since then?
I started blogging in 2009 during my junior year at Bucknell and can’t believe I will hit the eight-year mark this November! I’ve always been drawn to classic wardrobe staples (Barbour included!) and over time I’ve learned to be more comfortable sticking to the tried-and-true pieces that feel most “me” as opposed to getting distracted by trends that come and go.
Tell us about your first Barbour experience.
I bought my first Barbour (a navy Beadnell) during my first winter in New York and immediately wondered what had taken me so long. When it comes to outerwear, no one does it better than Barbour.
Living in Connecticut, you fully experience all the different seasons. How does your style change and adapt season to season?
I swear by closet staples that are relatively seasonless: button-down shirts, skinny jeans, ballet flats for spring/summer and riding boots for fall/winter. Of course I stock up on sweaters like any New Englander, but I really rely on quality outerwear to get me through the chillier months!
How would you describe your personal style?
Classic, preppy and simple. I like well-made pieces I can wear for years, but I can never resist a statement shoe.
What’s your favorite piece from this Barbour Weather Comfort Collection? Why? How would you style it for East Coast life?
I’m now the proud owner of two Stratus jackets — one navy and one yellow — because they’re the perfect weight for fall in New England. They’re also roomy enough to wear over a sweater come winter and over a t-shirt during a rainy spring.
What drew you to our Weather Comfort Collection?
I love that every piece is waterproof and that the Stratus jacket has a detachable hood. Any piece that’s as practical as it is stylish gets two thumbs up from me!
What could we find in the pocket of your Barbour jacket?
My iPhone, chapstick, and doggie essentials.
Are there any adventures that have particularly influenced your work? Do you get style inspiration from your different travels?
We just got back from our honeymoon in South Africa, Tanzania, and Kenya and I became obsessed with safari style — pretty neutrals, lots of layers and different textures. My husband also lived in his Barbour vest the entire trip!
Where are your favorite places to travel in the fall?
Anywhere in New England, whether it’s a weekend in Boston or a road trip up to Maine or Vermont. The changing leaves and crisp fall air never get old!

What does the future look like for Design Darling?
I’m excited to produce a lot more travel content going forward. There’s nothing like coming home from a big international trip to make you realize how much of the world you’ve yet to explore!
