Original Chatter with Mollie King: Q&A

Original Chatter with Mollie King: Q&A

SPRING SUMMER 2023

BBC Radio 1 presenter, former member of girl band The Saturdays and new mum, Mollie King, sat down with us to tell us more about how motherhood has enhanced her life, and her partnership with us here at Barbour International.

See how she styles the Moto Originals collection while getting a closer look at the person behind the Badge of an Original.

This is your second season collaborating with Barbour International. In what way do you relate to the attitude of Barbour International and the Badge of an Original?

Barbour International has a real focus on creating your own path and not always following the majority. They celebrate being original and the real you, and that’s something that’s really important to me. I think often there’s a temptation to just fit in, but it’s when you strive for what really excites you, whatever that might be that something special happens.

What’s your go-to outfit for running errands?

For running errands its anything that can be thrown on but still be practical and stylish. My classic Barbour International quilted jacket is my go-to, with some leggings and trainers.

What is keeping you busy nowadays?

My newborn daughter, Annabella, has just turned 3 months so is keeping me very busy day and night. She’s a real darling and I’m learning so much about being a new mum. I feel incredibly grateful to have her in my life. I’m also returning to my shows on BBC Radio 1 soon, so juggling those will be keeping me on my toes.

How are you finding motherhood? How has it changed you/enhanced your life?

It’s without a doubt my proudest achievement. I am completely besotted with Annabella. I look at her every day and can’t believe she’s my daughter. It has given me indescribable joy and has shown me how much you can get done on such little sleep, haha! I’m truly loving every minute.

What are you most excited about for 2023?

I can’t wait to see Annabella grow and be by her side. I still can’t believe I'm lucky enough to be her mum, so I’m just wanting to spend as much time with her as I can.

How do you overcome setbacks?

Setbacks are always hard, especially when it's something you’ve put your whole heart and soul in to. I think the important thing is to remember there’s so much joy in change and new challenges, so to not be too hard on yourself if something doesn’t work out. Embrace new beginnings.

Can you tell us something that most people don’t know about you?

Something most people don’t know is that I used to be on the British Ski Team. It feels like a completely different life now, and so very different to what I do today but it was such an amazing time. I think it made me learn from a young age the importance of hard work and not giving up. I miss seeing the mountains, but can’t wait to take my partner Stuart and little Annabella skiing one day. I’m intrigued to see which one of them will pick it up the fastest!

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

To try to not be so hard on myself and to be proud of who I am.  It’s still something I’m working on now.  We all have strengths and weaknesses which is such a beautiful thing, it’s what makes us different!  Embrace that!
