Meet Andrea at Westerlind

In this edition of our Indie Series, we're excited to feature Andrea, the manager of Westerlind, a store known for its curated selection of high-quality gear. Andrea shares her journey- from starting a small agency at 20 to building a reputation for offering stylish and functional products. She talks about her connection to Barbour, her approach to outdoor fashion, and how she balances her professional and personal life. Dive into her answers to learn more about what drives her passion for quality, craftsmanship, and living a well-rounded life. 

What inspired you to start your first business? 

I was 20 years old when I started a small agency, offering a selection of high-end outdoor brands and gear. Over time, the company grew, and I built a reputation for offering products that are both practical and beautiful. It wasn’t just about selling outdoor products—it was about building a community of like-minded individuals who appreciated the same things I did: quality, functionality, and a sense of adventure. In a way, Westerlind is an extension of my personal philosophy, blending my love for the outdoors with my desire to make the experience more enjoyable and stylish. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m proud of how far the brand has come.

What do you think draws you to Barbour? 

The durability and craftsmanship of Barbour’s products speak to the same high standards we hold for the products we curate at Westerlind. And, personally, I’ve always loved the idea of investing in items that get better with age—their jackets tell a story as they’re worn and lived in, and I think that's a beautiful thing. That sense of enduring quality and authenticity was definitely a huge draw for me. 

How does Barbour fit with your personal style and Westerlind's? 

Barbour and Westerlind intersect in many meaningful ways. Firstly, as a European tomboy, Barbour is the perfect look. Also, we share the same values of quality, timeless design, and a connection to the outdoors. 

What does your ideal day look like? 

An ideal day for me is about balance. It’s a blend of outdoor time, productive work, and personal connection, always with an eye on maintaining a sense of well-being and simplicity. It may seem like a lot to ask for but life upstate makes it all possible.

Do you have a favourite piece from the collection you carry? 

I love the cropped Beadnell jacket. It’s a perfect update to a classic style, and it’s cropped with makes for excellent layering opportunities.

How do you approach layering for both style and functionality? 

The age old method of 3 layers is still the best way to dress for the elements and style. * it allows flexiblity with whatever comes up in my ever changing schedule.  Either base- or mid layer is cashmere (I’m spoiled that way), over that, the mid layer is either a denim shirt, a wool blazer or a windbreaker ( I like to mix old with new and high tech with natural fibers). The outer layer is either a rain jacket or a down piece.

Can you tell us about any exciting projects you're working on and how you manage to juggle them in your busy schedule? 

I’m designing a prefab house with a big Swedish fabricator that I’m excited about. And I’m training for the Miami marathon in February. Other than that, I try to live in the moment and spend time with my two young children, Ragnar and Sigrid.
