Barbour Dogs Adventures: Introducing Sarge

From perfect summer days under the sun to tranquil strolls along winding coastal paths, the Barbour Way of Life.

As part of our monthly Barbour Dogs Adventure series, we’re sharing a glimpse into the wagnificent lives of our beloved #BarbourDogs. This month, meet Sarge, a spirited English Springer Spaniel from the scenic coast of South Wales.

Sarge is a playful seven-year-old with a heart as big as his sense of adventure. Rehomed just before his third birthday, he’s embraced every moment since with muddy paws and a wagging tail. Whether he’s splashing through streams, bounding after a ball, or snuggling up for a well-earned cuddle, Sarge lives for the outdoors.

Alongside his pawrents, he’s explored every national park in the UK, proving that no trail is too long and no puddle too deep. And of course, he does it all in true #BarbourDogs style.

List your top three dog-friendly sites/trails to visit and your favourite thing about visiting.

1. Pembrey Country Park - We love Pembrey Country Park as it’s a Spaniel heaven. There aren’t many places where the sea meets the forest like Pembrey. There’s so much to do, lots of walking trails through the forest, miles of beautiful beach, and a lovely dog-friendly cafe which do the best hot chocolate! 

2. Singleton Park - This park is amazing for dogs, it has lots of open spaces for zoomies, a stream to play in and it’s just across the road from the beach (can you tell Sarge is a beach baby?) There’s lots of parking and it’s such a lovely place to go and chill out. Our favourite dog-friendly cafe in Swansea is called Bluebell, It’s about a 5-minute drive from the park, so we always stop there for a bagel; they always have a stock of dog-friendly treats, and of course, sausages! 

3. Millennium Coastal Park, Llanelli- This is a 13 mile coastal path which has everything you need for the perfect walk. Beaches, lakes, dunes, fields, it has it all. We always take a stop for Dog Dad to have an open water swim, and of course I always join him! 

Walk us through your paw-fect ‘spoil your pooch day!’

Our paw-fect day would definitely be in the Lake District. We would get up early and grab some breakfast, Sarge loves sausages and eggs! After that, we would go on a nice long walk,  before stopping off for doggy afternoon tea at Merewood Country House, they do the best doggy and human afternoon tea. The evening would be spent in Conniston lakes where we would all go for a swim, play with the ball, and have a little snooze! 

What are your top tips for an adventure-filled day with your furry friends? 

Be prepared! If we are going away for a few days' adventure, we make sure each day's treats are put into sandwich bags before we leave so we can just grab and go in the morning. We always try and take a long-lasting chew just in case we decide to stop somewhere. In the lovely Welsh weather we don’t leave the house without a dog coat or jumper (some people think it’s controversial putting a coat on a dog, but honestly saves us so much time cleaning up after walks). We always have a ball to hand, too, otherwise we would never get Sarge out of the water! There’s always a clean towel, a mud daddy, and fresh water in the car. Our biggest battle has been making sure we teach Sarge how to settle, this makes all the difference when you are out and about. 

Which Barbour Dogs products are essential for an adventure-filled day?

Barbour products are the best-made products on the market and are fully Spaniel-proof! Needless to say we have the majority of the collection, but our favourite products are his limited edition BAPE x Barbour wax jacket which is perfect for living in Rainy Swansea. We also love the drying robe, it’s so handy to pop on after a walk, and by the time we get home he’s pretty much dry! It’s a lifesaver. We don’t go anywhere without our Barbour harness, it’s designed so it doesn’t restrict the dog's movement, so it’s perfect for running through muddy fields and swimming in the sea.
