To celebrate the launch of our AW17 Weather Comfort collection we invited Style Director of Esquire magazine; Teo van den Broeke, to join us on a getaway to Middleton Lodge. Discover what he got up to and what pieces he chose from the collection to test drive…
September and October are nightmare months in the world of menswear. It’s the time when the fashion industry goes back to school and everyone wakes up from the slumber of summer. There are too many events to count (and far too many to attend), there are deadlines to hit, magazine pages to fill and press trips to go on. In the lead up to my visit to the beautiful Middleton Lodge with Barbour, I embarked on consecutive jaunts to Beijing and Los Angeles, so it couldn’t have come at a better time.
To say that the serenity of Middleton lodge acted as a salve for my jet lag is an understatement. A Georgian gem of an estate at the gently beating heart of the North Yorkshire countryside, there was an autumnal charm about the place that got me back on UK time in, well, no time.
After a wonderful night’s sleep in the cottage Barbour had taken over for us on the edge of the estate, I awoke refreshed and ready for a day jam-packed with outdoorsy activities. We started with a brisk autumn walk through the rolling countryside that surrounds the Lodge. My sturdy Barbour wellies and ultra-light Weather Comfort jacket provided ample protection from the elements. What’s more, the jacket was cut in a natty shade of navy (the only hue I normally wear), which meant that it went well with the rest of my all-blue wardrobe.

The highlight of the day would have been the amazing lunch cooked for us by Middleton Lodge’s team of master chefs had it not been for our afternoon Barbour X Brompton bike ride around the grounds. I’m an avid cyclist back in London (I cycle to work on my own, slightly less stylish Brompton bike most days) so I was thrilled to learn that I’d have an opportunity to cycle one of Barbour’s racing green collaboration bikes in such resplendent surrounds.
I also reveled in the fact that I could show off to everyone how quickly I could put up, and put down, one of the foldaway bikes (45 seconds, if you’re asking). The Weather Comfort jacket was as breathable as it was insulating on the ride, I can’t wait to wear it on my daily commute back in the big smoke.

The day was rounded off with a glass of red wine or two and a barbecue back at the house; jet leg truly allayed, lungs full of country air and a body ready for a night of exercise-induced sleep.
