In 2017, Cyber Weekend will span Friday 24th - Monday 27th November.

In recent years, we’ve seen an influx of traditions from other countries, making their way to British shores bringing a new twist to the festive season.

Black Friday is one of these traditions which now for many, like the appearance of pop-up Christmas markets, signals the start of the festive period. But where does Black Friday come from and how has it grown to be the largest single shopping event in the world?

Black Friday originates from America and is traditionally the day after Thanksgiving which much like on Boxing Day, many people take the day off work. The event grew in popularity and in 1966 Philadelphia’s police department coined the name Black Friday to describe the bustling streets and road traffic caused by the sheer volume of shoppers.

Black Friday has since become the largest single shopping event stealing the title from Christmas Eve. Similar to our well-known Boxing Day sales, the day has become a must for keen shoppers looking for great deals. Like the offers for which it’s famous, it now appears the Black Friday tradition might not be destined to last and so it could be best to enjoy it while we can.

You can shop our Black Friday offers in store and online. We'll continue to add more deals across the weekend with some special Cyber Monday offers already planned as well.
