Today, Barbour International is a stand-alone brand which celebrates a long and rich heritage in motorcycle-inspired clothing since 1936. Who is Barbour International?

In 1936, Duncan Barbour, the third generation of the Barbour family and a keen motorcyclist, introduced a one-piece waxed cotton suit called the Barbour International into the Barbour range. Developed specifically for the 1936 International Six Day Trials, the Barbour International suit became so popular that it was worn by virtually every rider in the ISDT circuit from the 1950s to the 1970s. Eventually, this suit was even adapted for military use as it was turned into a two-piece jacket and trousers which became a standard issue for Britain’s submariners.

Today, after launching as a standalone website supplying garments for men, women, children and dogs in 2018, the Barbour International brand has returned to its original home on the Barbour.com site while continuing to deliver the authentic, motorcycle-inspired aesthetic and heritage, it has become synonymous with since the very beginning.

Who wears Barbour International?

Barbour International is supported by a multitude of enthusiasts around the world, with ongoing collaborations with celebrities such as Mollie King, Reggie Yates, Sam Fender and, most notably, Steve McQueen who wore the iconic Barbour International suit in the 1964 International Six Day Trials, while his legacy continues to inspire his namesake collaboration with Barbour International to this day.
