Sea dogs needn’t look any further than Cornwall for a dog-friendly coastal break. With over 300 dog-friendly beaches, coastal paths, and beautiful sub-tropical gardens, you’ll have a hard time convincing your Barbour Dogs to leave! We’ve sniffed out the top places to visit and stay with your pooch…
The Best Dog-Friendly Beaches…

Mexico Towans Beach, St Ives
Backed by sand dunes known as the Towans, this four-mile-long dog-friendly beach stretches from the mouth of the Hayle Estuary to the lighthouse at Godrevy Point. Furry friends can enjoy lots of ball games and swimming in the sea!

Daymer Bay Beach, Rock
One of Cornwall’s most famous beaches, this sheltered, sandy arch has safe water and sandy dunes for your pooch to enjoy. We recommend walking along to Rock or Polzeath, or climb up to Carn Brea Hill for stunning views.
Sandymouth Beach, Bude
Located on the north end of Bude, Sandymouth is a pebble beach with towering cliffs, a waterfall and rockpools. When the tide is out, 2km of sand will be revealed and you can walk along this all the way into Bude!

Watergate Bay, Newquay
Set against a backdrop of awe-inspiring cliffs, this is definitely one of our favourite dog-friendly beaches! Expect to see surfers and lots of other coast-loving canines around. At low-tide, walk across the sand to Trevelgue Head for fantastic views.

The Best Dog-Friendly Walks...

South West Coast Path
The longest National Trail in the UK, the South West Coast Path runs for an eye-watering 630-miles – a dog’s dream! Perfect for afternoon strolls or more challenging hikes, this path has something for every furry friend and their owner.

Bodmin Moor
However, if your pooch is tired of getting sand in between their paws, embark on a walk around Bodmin Moor. Stretching for over 100-square-miles, Bodmin Moor is remote, rugged and breath-taking.

Tamar Valley
Forming the boundary between Cornwall and Devon, Tamar Valley covers around 75-square-miles and is great for when you want to escape the more touristy areas of Cornwall. Canine companions will love roaming the wooded valleys and meadows.

Fun Dog-Friendly Activities…

Trelissick Estate, Truro Only assistant dogs have access to the garden, however Trelissick Estate has miles of woodland walks and open countryside for your pet to explore. For a gentle walk, follow the River Fal along to Roundwood Quay. Then stop in Crofters Café for a light bite and cup of tea – the outdoor seating area is dog-friendly.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Austell Your Barbour Dog will love sniffing around the 200-acres of sub-tropical jungle and ancient woodlands. Settle down in the picnic area after you’ve both walked your legs off for a refreshment and well-deserved nap.

Trebah Garden, Falmouth
Another sub-tropical garden but on a smaller scale, Trebah Garden covers 25-acres and even has its very own, secluded beach along the Helford River. It’s open every day and has been rated as one of 80 best gardens in the world.

And some wonderful dog-friendly hotels and cottages which you can book through PetsPyjamas…

Hotel Tresanton, Truro– Set in the peaceful village of St Mawes, Hotel Tresanton is a super stylish seaside escape to pets and their owners. Four-legged guests will be provided with beds, blankets, bowls and towels. And best of all, this hotel is within sniffing distance of the beach!
