How to Take Beautiful Nature Photographs with Georgina Walker

This season, the Coast to Country collection takes its inspiration from exploring the outdoors – from nature walks along meandering coastal paths with their abundance of colourful wildflowers to walks through woodland trails surrounded by daisies, forget-me-nots and buttercups.

Awash with colour and signs of new life, spring is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature and relax in the outdoors. We have teamed up with blogger and owner of Wildflower Photo Studio, Georgina Walker (@georginaa on Instagram), to bring you a quick tips photography guide that’s sure to help you capture special moments in your local area. Read on for Georgina’s six steps for the perfect spring photography.

1. Talk to locals.

Before venturing out anywhere, talk to people. The locals will be able to tell you the best lanes, where the flowers have bloomed, where to stay away from and (most of the time) give you recommendations. I find my best photography spots on my daily dog walks too, I’ll notice a carpet of bluebells ready to go and note down to revisit in a week. Being local - I’ll tell someone else so they can optimise that space too.

2. Use natural light

Time of day is a key factor to a dreamy looking image. Golden hour can play a huge role in photography. Adding a beautiful warm, natural hazy effect to your images. You’ll get totally different results depending on when you decide to shoot. Golden hour is the 60 minutes before sunset and after sunrise.

3. Be patient

Good shots are rarely the first ones that you take, I love shooting Aperture Priority for natural light landscapes. Play around with your settings, find your style and experiment with depth. Shoot rapid series for every scene.

5. Shoot your subject from eye level

For a more inviting and appealing shot, take yourself down to eye level of your subject. Never tilt your camera, this will give your image more real life perspective.

6. Use foliage for a dreamy effect (my favourite!)

Experiment with colour, pull something out of your backdrop, if this is a flower field have a flower prop so you can create a natural frame around your lens. The same works for leafy environments.
