Celebrating 125 Years of Barbour

Autumn Winter 2019

To celebrate Barbour’s 125th anniversary and five generations of the Barbour family, we joined Chairman of J Barbour & Sons, Dame Margaret Barbour, Vice Chairman of J Barbour & Sons, Helen Barbour, senior members of the Barbour team and some very special media guests to toast the brand’s incredible achievements.

Barbour 125 Event

Guests toasted to 125 years of success

Held at the impressive Spencer House, London, the event reflected Barbour’s rich 125-year history and DNA. As guests arrived, they were greeted with a champagne reception and were able to get a closer look at Barbour’s AW19 Icons Re-Engineered Collection. Each Icons Re-Engineered piece is inspired by a legendary jacket from the Barbour archive that reflects a significant period in the company's history, updated into a contemporary style for today.

The event hosted VIPs including Editor of The Financial Times’ ‘How To Spend It’, Jo Ellison, Editor-In-Chief at The Gentleman’s Journal, Harry Jarman, Editor of The Field, Jonathan Young, and was toasted by close friend of Barbour and Editor at GQ, Dylan Jones OBE. Guests enjoyed a 3-course lunch, especially chosen by Dame Margaret Barbour and inspired by Barbour’s roots in the British countryside.

The event centred around the exclusive showing of the Barbour 125 Years film, which was produced by The Ridley Scott Creative Group. Wonderfully narrated by Dame Margaret Barbour and Helen Barbor, the film portrays the history of Barbour through the years, detailing the brand’s successes since 1894 and its connection and relevance to the British landscape.

The team from The Ridley Scott Creative Group also joined us to congratulate the Barbour family, as well as to celebrate the new collaboration between Barbour and Sir Ridley Scott, with the launch of The Director’s Jacket for men and women in Autumn Winter 2019.

Before the lunch was served, Barbour Corporate Development Director, Ian Beattie, asked all guests to stand and raise a glass to Barbour, to celebrate 125 years from its early beginnings in South Shields to the global ilfestyle brand it has become today.
