BARBOUR WAXED COTTON

Waxed cotton has been at the heart of the Barbour brand ever since the company’s beginnings in 1894. When John Barbour founded J. Barbour & Sons in the busy port town of South Shields in the North East of England, one of the bestselling lines was the Beacon Brand range of oilskin outerwear. It was designed to keep the sailors, fishermen and shipyard workers dry in even the worst weather.

The formula has been refined over the years, with the introduction of a new paraffin-based wax in the 30s. Its durability and resistant properties are perfect for modern life from the country to the city and, when properly looked after, a Barbour waxed jacket can last for many years, building up a patina that’s as unique as each wearer.
