The Barbour story began in 1894 when John Barbour set up his first store in South Shields in the North East of England providing garments for sailors, fishermen, rivermen and dockers to protect them from the worst of the North Sea weather.
The Original North Sea Outfitters collection takes its influence from these origins and is inspired by the beautiful and dramatic Northumbrian coastline. Authentic and robust the Autumn / Winter 17 collection is both warm and practical.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be meeting three personalities whose lifestyle is inspired by the coast. Firstly we caught up with Daniel Alford, a landscape photographer based in Cardiff. We went on a photography expedition with him to find out what inspires him about the Pembrokeshire Coastline.
Next up, we meet Kenny Atkinson, the Founder and Head Chef at Michelin starred restaurant House of Tides, situated on the historical Newcastle Quayside. We learn all about how the coast inspires his work and his connection with it throughout growing up.
Lastly we spoke to Jonny Burke a traditional boat builder based in Glasgow. We visited him in his workshop to delve into the world of traditional boat building and discover how he learnt his craft.
