A Look Back on the New York Tartan Parade 2017

With marchers, onlookers and dozens of pups outfitted in #BarbourTartan for the weekend, we’re taking a look at this year’s New York Tartan Day Parade.

April 10th 2017
Across Friday 7th and Saturday 8th of April, we proudly celebrated our #BarbourTartan Scottish heritage alongside hundreds of marchers at the New York Tartan Day Parade.
We kicked off the weekend with a private event on Friday in our NYC showroom, in partnership with Scot Street Style. Guests were invited to discover our Tartan heritage through a range of stations, including Glenlivet whisky tasting, live jacket re-waxing, and a special panel on Scottish fashion. Our Vice Chairman, Helen Barbour, was in attendance, along with a mix of special guests, including actor Brian Cox, Simone Murphy of Britain’s Next Top Model and Mr Scotland.
On Saturday, the sun came out as spectators flocked to Sixth Avenue to watch the annual Tartan Day Parade. The tartan celebrations got off to a lively start with the #BarbourDogs Scottie and Westie competition, judged by Helen Barbour and US General Manager, Tom Hooven.
Once our paw-fect finalists were picked and sashes were draped proudly over the victors, the parade began in full swing.
The Barbour Team and the Scottie and Westie dog pack marched down a sunny Sixth Avenue to the music of bagpipes, with flags and banners in hand, proudly showcasing Barbour’s Scottish heritage that remains true to this day.
We were joined by three of our US college ambassadors; Anne Marie, Erica and Emily, who joined the Barbour Tartan Dog Pack to bear the Barbour flags.
Following the parade, we continued the celebrations with an official reception held at the NYC showroom with guests of Barbour and the American Scottish Foundation. Guests enjoyed a whiskey tasting session followed by hors d'oeuvres and refreshments, before snapping pictures in our #BarbourTartan photobooth.
