Chris Baber: Healthy Breakfast Recipes

Now it’s the New Year we’re on the lookout for healthy recipes to kick start our resolutions. We caught up with Chef, Chris Baber, who will be taking us through his favourite recipes over the next few weeks.

Chris Baber is one of our fantastic models for photoshoots and catwalks, when we found out that he was also a Chef we couldn’t wait to see what he had been cooking up!

Chris has been a keen chef for a number of years and recently won BBC One's Yes Chef competition with his passion for healthy cooking.

Our New Year’s resolution is to be more healthy and we thought Chris was the perfect person to show us the way…

Starting the day the right way Chris shares his favourite healthy breakfast dishes…Pear and cinnamon porridge with toasted almonds

Ingredients
50g oats
2 tablespoons of flaked almonds
300ml milk/water
1 pear - ½ grated ½ diced
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
 
1.Place the almonds into a dry pan over a medium heat and toast for 1-2 minutes until golden, remove from the pan and set aside
2.Place the oats with the milk/water into a saucepan the grated pear and cinnamon and bring to a boil
3.Simmer for 4-5 minutes stirring often
4.Remove from the heat and stir in the diced pear
5.Transfer to a bowl
6.Scatter over the golden toasted almonds

Cherry Bakewell Porridge

Ingredients
1 tablespoon of flaked almonds
50g oats
300ml milk/water
½ tablespoon of vanilla extract
1 tablespoon of ground almonds
10 cherries halved and stones removed
1 tablespoon of honey
1 tablespoon of water
 
 
1.Place the flaked almonds into the saucepan, toast for 2 minutes until lightly golden and set aside
2.Place the oats with the milk/water, vanilla, and ground almonds into a saucepan and bring to a boil
3.Reduce the heat and Simmer for 4-5 minutes stirring often
4.Remove from the heat
5.Transfer to a bowl
6.Pour the cherry topping over the porridge and scatter over the toasted flaked almonds
 
To make the cherry topping

1.Place the cherries into a sauce pan along with 1tbs of water and honey
2.Bring to the boil and cook for 2-3 minutes until the water has evaporated and you are left with a sticky jam like sauce
