Barbour x Brompton: The Brompton World Championships

We headed to the Brompton World Championships in London to celebrate our latest collaboration with fellow British iconic brand, Brompton.

August 4th 2017
On Saturday 29th July 2017 the Brompton World Championship Final race took place as part of Prudential Ride London for the third year running, and we were there to catch all of the action.
In true British style, it was a wet summer’s day in London, but that didn’t stop over 400 riders (from 27 countries) dressing up in their best ‘city-style’ and riding around the St James’ Park race track.
The BWC race started just after 7pm, which allowed plenty of time to test the riders’ Brompton folding skills, with a friendly game of ‘Fastest Fold’. Many Brompton lovers confidently rose to the challenge, but only one was crowned the winner.
As the time for the race drew closer, all riders made their way on to the race course. The race course covered eight laps around St James’ Park, past the iconic Buckingham Palace and down the Mall. The race included national champions from BWC Final qualifying events around the world.
Before the race began, all bikes were placed on one end of the track in front of the riders. The race started with a Le Mans-style dash, riders unfolded their bikes before taking on the 16km circuit.
Spectators cheered on as riders rushed passed them on their Bromptons. Mark Emsley, 3 time BWC final winner took a strong lead at the beginning but was overtaken by others determined to win.
The final lap of the race saw all participants giving it their all to reach the end, and what an amazing finish it was! Six riders finished the race at 26:25 mins, but by only a centimetre ahead Catalan cyclist, Unai Alvarez Mosquera was crowned the new BWC final winner.
Last but not least was the presentation for the best dressed male and female, who were awarded their very own limited edition Barbour X Brompton Bromley jacket for the best dressed female, and Merton jacket for the best dressed male.
Floor Dirks from the Netherlands won the best dressed female, and the male best dressed prize went to Mehmet Bagbozan from Turkey, who was delighted to appear on the front of The Sunday Telegraph the following day.
