To celebrate the launch of our AW17 Weather Comfort collection we invited style and travel journalist Carrie Santana da Silva of blog ‘wishwishwish’ to join us on a get away to Middleton Lodge. Discover what she got up to and what pieces she chose from the collection to test drive…
I’ve been a long-time fan of Barbour, relying on their coats for both style and practicality, so I was honoured to have been asked to head North, not far from Barbour HQ, to get to know both the brand a little better, and the latest Weather Comfort collection.
When I’m out in the British countryside (the best place to be at this time of year, I think you’ll agree!), I want to make sure that I’m wearing something practical, and know that my outfit won’t hold me back. Of course, as a fashion blogger, I’m conscious that it needs to look good at the same time - this is where Weather Comfort comes in.
Based on styles from the extensive Barbour archives, the collection melds Barbour’s famous heritage look with new fabric technologies. Guaranteeing that we stay totally dry in our new outfits, we put them to the test whilst spending a day outdoors at Middleton Lodge.
Carrie wore our Barbour Velum Waterproof Jacket styled with our Barbour Essential Slim Jeans and Barbour Bede Wellingtons.
First we donned our wellies for a woodland walk, taking in the scenery and the changing Autumn leaves. We traversed bridges, muddy trails and paths, all chatting along the way. It turns out that walking works up quite an appetite, and our next stop was to the beautiful walled garden to forage for ingredients that we’d be eating for lunch.
It was my duty to get my hands dirty and pull up the best-looking beetroot to be turned into a hearty side-dish. I could only imagine what it would be like to have a stock of fresh potatoes, herbs, flowers and other produce on my doorstep!
Once our baskets were full to the brim (and I’d finished posing next to the prettiest flowers) it was time to head to the kitchen. We were treated to a cooking demonstration, culminating in a rather silent lunch - that’s when you know the food is great!
Totally full, we spent the afternoon attempting a game of croquet on the lawn. This was followed by a bike ride, taking in the last of the Autumn light before heading back to base and gathering around the fire.
I can safely say that my Velum Waterproof Jacket well and truly passed the test! It kept me both warm and dry, and has become my new go-to on grey days. I can’t wait to take it out for another walk - only this time I’ll be swapping out the Northern Yorkshire countryside for Hampstead Heath!
