Q. What after sales services do you offer?
A. We can offer repairs, comprehensive alterations and reproofing of Barbour waxed cotton jackets.
Q. How long will it take to service my jacket?
A. Provided you inform us of the exact nature of your requirements and the correct payment has been received, then you can expect your jacket back within 2 weeks of receipt.
Should you require a quotation for the work then you can expect your jacket to be returned within 2 weeks of our receiving written notification to proceed.
For the last week in May and the first three weeks of August the Barbour factory is closed. It may therefore take slightly longer to service jackets during this period.
This service time is UK specific and may take longer in other countries.
Important Announcement:
Please note that due to the number of garments returned for servicing recently (900+ jackets) we are having to quote a very long-lead time for completing repairs and reproofing. The current expected turnaround time is up to 10 weeks. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this delay may cause you. The best time to return your garment for servicing is the spring months (April to June) when we are usually able to greatly reduce the turnaround time.
Q. My wax jacket is soiled how can I clean it?
A. To remove the soiling we recommend sponging with cold water.
Do not use soaps or detergents as these will affect the performance of the wax finish.
Q. I've shortened the sleeves on my wax jacket but after a few months small holes and wear lines have appeared at the cuffs. What shall I do?
A. Shortening the sleeves will alter the shape of the sleeve at the cuff and unnatural creases and holes may occur.
If the sleeves need altering we can do that for you. Either take your jacket to your local Barbour stockist or return it direct to your local Barbour office. We will add a binding to the cuff in cotton or leatherette.
Q. I've put my wax jacket into a washing machine to clean it and now all the wax has come off. What can I do?
A. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done as the washing process strips all the wax finish from the cotton fabric. Any re-application of the wax coating will be totally absorbed by the cotton fabric and will soil the inner lining which, in turn, will soil any clothing worn underneath the jacket.
Q. My wax jacket is an absolute rag, it's dropping to bits - but I've had it for years and it has tremendous sentimental value. Can you save it for me?
A. Often these repairs will cost more than a new replacement and therefore we reserve the right to refuse the repair as we deem it to be "beyond cost effective repair" for the customer.
More often than not our qualified inspectors will provide a quotation for essential repairs only and concentrate on areas of the jacket, which will retain the wind and waterproof qualities. For example, replacing a zip or repairing a few holes and tears then finishing off with a reproof.
We will always choose the most cost-effective approach for our customer.
Q. Can I dry clean my Barbour wax jacket?
A. No, unfortunately you can not dry clean Barbour wax garments. The chemical process used in dry cleaning may permanently damage or remove the proofing.
Q. Where can I get my Barbour jacket serviced?
A. Many of our retail stockists will be happy to discuss your servicing requirements with you and return your jacket to our local office.
Alternatively you can return your jacket direct to your local Barbour office detailing your requirements and a quotation will be returned for your approval. Or complete the garment return form on this web site and post with your jacket to your local Barbour office.
Q. How do I make a claim under your product guarantee?
A. On the rare occasion that you may need to make a claim under our product guarantee then please return the product to us at your local Barbour office stating:
-
The nature of your complaint
-
When and where the product was purchased
-
Your day time contact details including an email address if applicable
-
Your full mailing address including postcode
You may also take the product to the retailer from whom you purchased the product.
Please also refer to our guarantees.
Q. Can I reproof my Barbour wax jacket myself?
A. Yes you can. Buy a tin of Barbour wax dressing at your local stockist and carefully follow the instructions on the tin. We also offer a professional service as this can be messy.
Q. How often do you recommend reproofing a wax jacket?
A. It all depends on the amount of use of the jacket and how it is stored. With regular everyday use we would recommend that it be reproofed every year.
Q. How do I wash waterproof breathable outwear?
A. Please refer to the washing instructions sewn into each garment. Generally all Barbour waterproof breathable outerwear can be machine or hand-washed at 30ºc. The use of a 'non-detergent soap' such as Nikwax Techwash is recommended for waterproof breathable garments. Fabric softeners should not be used as these prevent the durable water repellent treatment from working effectively.
Q. How do I get the best performance from Barbour products?
A. By following the wash/care instructions provided with each product and referring to the advice provided on this site.
If the sleeves of your jacket are too long it is best to have them altered to prevent un-natural creasing and wear.
