The Barbour Academy offers a range of study and learning programmes for those either looking to develop a career in the textile or manufacturing industry, or those looking to broaden their key employability skills.
Situated on the first floor of Barbour’s South Shields manufacturing unit, where our most famous product - the classic wax jacket - is still produced, the Barbour Academy features a range of study facilities including two ICT rooms, a teaching room and a practical machine area.
Students will be taught by staff from Hartlepool College, Barbour and the Sora Group, and can join a range of programmes that will be tailored to cover the study areas that you’re most interested in, whether that be basic literacy and numeracy skills to apprenticeships in sewing and textiles, warehousing and storage, leadership and management – there really is something for everyone.
Plus, all students enrolled on the pre-employment courses Barbour Academy will be offered a guaranteed interview with Barbour at the end of their studies, as well as the opportunity to be introduced to key manufacturing contacts within the region for employment opportunities in other manufacturing sectors.
